Fly Anglers’ Fannies Getting Looks with Zippers Removed

“Your fly is open” has a whole new meaning now. And closing it no longer takes a “zip” but a flip.
At least that’s the case with the new William Joseph “Surge” fanny pack, featuring magnetic pouch closures for one-hand opening and closing. The innovative item was recently named the winner of the flyfishing “Outerwear” category in Field & Stream magazine’s annual “Best of the Best” awards.
“A hands-down winner,” stated the opening narrative about the item in the March 2009 issue that announced all winners. The description from one of the judges also said, “I loaded this up, dropped it from the roof, punted it around a bit, and never lost so much as a split shot. Sensibly sized and configured tackle compartments ride on a wide padded belt for exceptional comfort. Smartly engineered and executed in top-flight materials, this tackle pack makes a lot of sense.”

The Surge fanny pack is made for function first and foremost, having a large main compartment with organizer pockets. One pocket is a fold-down workstation. And there are two water bottle pockets.
All openings feature William Joseph Zip No™ magnetic closure system. Pocket closure is tight, seals the entire perimeter, and allows one-hand opening and closing.
As with all Vortex wear-gear, user comfort is a given. The Surge rides perfectly on the wearer’s backside, and the anatomical padded belt provides full support in all the right places.
“What an honor it is to have the Field & Stream judges pick one of our products as best in class,” said Bill Crawley, founder of Vortex Outdoors, a Salt Lake City, Utah, company that became part of the Zebco Brands family last year. “We couldn’t be prouder than to have them focus on the very things that separates our items from others in the category … innovation, quality and function.”
